Improv World
I was in a world where all I had to do was show up
It was all improv, improv
Nothing was practiced, the dance was unknown
And I showed up to school to write a song for my class
And we sang it for us all,
And then burned the words with everything else
and so we left,
attempts at perfection were forbidden
judgement to the creation of a friend was shunned
i just want you to show up
and so we showed up,
and kept coming
it was weird at first, but that is how i entered into my body
we all did,
we had been watching ourselves from afar
increasing the contrast for attention
decreasing the saturation for survival
but you're safe now,
we're safe now
i know, i know what matters is your fragile chest, your hidden breaths
i knew it when your eyes left the conversation,
but i didn't dare watch your mouth move, i moved back,
with the space between us i sent a signal
I'm sorry you had to present it as a plate for others to pick apart and declare,
but i will only watch and approve
i will forever approve
